Ridge pole

16 September 2009 | Category: Building | Author: Clare

The ridge pole has been wandering around in the back of my mind for months.

To finally be the other side of this particular hurdle is an awesome feeling; the prospect of getting a heavy, long beam settled on top of 2 vertical posts just over 16’ off the ground, was daunting to say the least.

In the end, it was really straightforward; instead of trying to find a way to lift the beam from the floor, it was just built 10’ off the ground! Rented scaffolding goes a long way to making your life easier; the long pieces of wood were cut to size, hefted up, then screwed and glued right up there – that only left a wee bit over 6’ of man-handling (thank you for your help there Sir : ).

With a supervisor on deck, and 2 people lifting the end for each step up, the whole thing was complete with very little fanfare ...though granted a lot of scampering around on scaffold!

The tasty celebratory beverage sure hit the spot afterwards!
