Wee bears

Last week Breagha and I came face to face with the sow and her three cubs. This is the first time this year I have seen them, and despite the stand-off, huffing and gritting of teeth on both the bear and Breagha's part, I was happy to see them back and in good health.

The unfortunate fact remains that we now have 4 bears in a group to deal with, and I have dusted off my rifle.

For the hunters out there, you will undoubtedly agree that fresh snow is your best friend. Not only does it quieten the ear-splitting rustle underfoot of the fall, but it provides a perfect canvas for an array of interesting tracks and sign.

The cool thing about candles it that you do not have to get up to turn them off; you can doze off to sleep knowing they will burn as long as they are able, then die a peaceful death.
